Description
Sadolin Polyurethane Floor Varnish is a water based floor varnish ideal for all interior wood flooring. Available in Clear gloss and satin finishes. For use in natural wood or over timber stained with Quick Dry Woodstain or Classic Woodstain.
General Timber Advice
- Timber surfaces must be suitably prepared.
- The moisture content should not exceed 18% prior to coating.
- Resinous deposits should be removed.
- Degrease any exposed bare timber by wiping with a clean, lint free cloth dampened with methylated spirits, frequently changing the face of the cloth.
- Allow the solvent to fully evaporate.
- Abrade sound timber surfaces in the direction of the grain using medium/medium fine grade (P180/P240) pads/abrasive paper (nothing metallic), taking care not to damage or scratch across surfaces.
- Remove dust.
- “Knotting agents” should not be used with Sadolin systems.
- Use Sadolin Woodfillers to make good any minor surface defects. General or all purpose fillers are not suitable.
- We recommend the use of non-ferrous screws, nails and fixings. Exposed ferrous items may corrode and break the coating film over time if not suitably primed/treated prior to decorating.
New Timber
- All surfaces must be sound, suitably dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied.
Previously Coated Timber
- All surfaces must be sound, suitably dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied.
- Remove all defective coatings.
- Organic growths should be treated with a suitable fungicidal solution and removed.
- Remaining sound surfaces should be cleaned and degreased with warm water and mild detergent, rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to dry.
- Lightly abrade in the direction of the grain, taking care not to break the surface coating.
- Remove dust.
- Apply coats as required to clean, prepared, sound surfaces.
- Localised damage, or severe deterioration of coating requires thorough sanding back to sound substrate.
- Work to a suitable edge/end of board, treat as new.
Application
- The final colour and sheen of translucent coatings are dependent on timber species, colour, cut and presence of existing coating amongst other factors.
- We recommend a trial application in an inconspicuous area prior to commencement of work to check for colour accuracy.
- Always intermix (box) packs for colour consistency.
- For a clear finish apply 3 coats of Sadolin Polyurethane Floor Varnish.
- For a coloured base apply 1 coat of Sadolin Classic followed by 3 coats of Sadolin Polyurethane Floor Varnish.
- NOTE: Some discolouration of the finish may occur when Sadolin Polyurethane Floor Varnish is applied over pale shades of paint/colour wash – a trial application is recommended before proceeding with the entire floor.
- Avoid direct sunlight on floor during application.
- Apply in full flowing coats, laying off in the direction of the grain, ensuring all surfaces and end grains are fully coated.
- For best results use a good quality, synthetic fibre bristle brush.
- Avoid over brushing as this will cause brush marks and result in a poor quality finish.
- Carefully denib between coats using a fine grade nylon abrasive pad or a fine grade (P240 or finer) wet or dry silicone carbide abrasive paper in the direction of the grain. Do not break through the surface coating.
- Remove all dust.
- Protect from water until dry.
- All subsequent coatings should be applied as soon as possible after the previous coat has fully dried.
