Hi..
If you are looking at this then I guess it’s time to refresh the walls in your home ??
A few hints and tips that might help you out while redecorating the interior walls of your home, if in doubt with anything give us a call.
Can I paint Plastered walls |Â Brick work | Wall Paper | Block workÂ
Yes not a problem, make sure the surface you are wishing to paint on to is dry and sound with no loose or flaking substrate or mould.
Before Starting .. Stand back, what do you need to do 1st.
Sheet the flooring up to prevent paint spills damaging flooring
Do you need to loosen any electrical sockets – If so please be careful or call a professional.
Do you need to mask any areas to prevent paint affecting skirtings, window cills or other areas not to be painted.
Have you got enough paint ??
Do you have the right tools ?? Â
What Will I Need ??
Paint Brushes for cutting in or tricky areas.
         Paint Roller & Tray
Dust Sheet ( Old blankets are ideal )Â
         Filling knife | Filler
         Masking Tape
         Abrasive pad or sandpaper
Some cleaning clothes, to mop up a spill or quickly clean something.
Before starting fill any holes and sand back as appropriate, sometimes with small cracks you may need to open them up using your filling knife. Making them slightly wider so you can get filler into them will leave you with a better finish when you sand it back. Sanding – I would recommend using sanding blocks or sanding pads, sand paper just clogs, tears and is fairly ineffective in my eyes compared to the new abrasive products.
Prepare the surface to be painted with Sugar Soap ( Sugar Soap is a mild detergent which removes pollutants, when dry does not leave any residue which may impair adhesion of fresh paint ), You can use household detergents but to be honest warm water may be just as good
Can I Paint Wallpaper ?  YES ..
Providing the wallpaper you want to paint is sound, not loose or coming away from the wall then not a problem however if it has come away you could potentially stick it back down with a little wallpaper paste or a border adhesive.
There is no real problem in painting Lining Paper, Blown vinyl, Anaglypta, Vinyl wallpapers or Thermal liners.
You can use Emulsion paint, Acrylic Eggshell, Durable Matt Emulsions, Contract Matt etc .. All are Interior Use Only.
Painting Newly plastered walls.
New / Fresh Plaster – It is recommended that new plaster be painted using Contract emulsion or Leyland Super leytex paint. The reason is new plaster whilst appearing dry contain efflorescence, salts which can take several months to dry out completely. If you were to use a Vinyl emulsion this would seal the surface, potentially sealing the efflorescence and preventing it drying out. This may result in the Vinyl emulsion paint being pushed of the wall. Contract and Super Leytex allow the efflorescence to continue to dry through the paint and preventing the paint from flaking off.
We can mix the contract emulsion in to pastel shades.
Existing plastered or previously emulsioned walls are a breeze, potentially 2 coats of fresh emulsion paint will see the job completed.
Emulsion paints come in 1lt, 2.5lt & 5lt pack sizes and can be mixed in to several thousands of colours using out tinting systems.
Starting to Paint.
Make sure you have enough paint to complete the job, if you have a large area and are using 2 -3 tins if possible we would highly recommend you box the tins together in a large roller bucket, whilst they are made on the same tinting system occasionally there can be slight differences. If yo cannot box all tins in to one try to make any change of tins happen in a corner where any potential difference is less obvious due to light difference in corners.
