Description
Zinsser SealCoat is the perfect sanding sealer because it penetrates the surface, dries quickly and gives a rich tone to wood surfaces. Non-yellowing. SealCoat seals all types of wood surfaces including oak, chestnut, mahogany, maple, walnut, birch, poplar, and more. It is highly recommended for interior woodwork such as panelling, moulding, trim,??doors, windows, furniture and toys – and it’s also great for wood floors.
Zinsser SealCoat is compatible with most other clear finishes because of its high adhesion. It can be applied to any existing finish to protect the surface from strong solvent-based coatings. This also ensures adhesion of solvent-based polyurethane, water-based polyurethane, lacquer and other clear finishes. Apply two full coats to create a barrier for sealing odours in certain types of woods and chip board.
Preparation
- Surfaces must be sound, clean, and dry. Remove any wax from the surface with methylated spirits. Sand bare wood as smoothly as possible and remove all sanding dust.
- Previously applied wood stains must be completely dry.
- Previously applied finishes must be clean and tightly adhered.
- Thinning is not normally necessary.
- Apply evenly and consistently and allow to dry 45 minutes before sanding with 120 or finer grit sandpaper.
- Remove all dust and apply finish coat.
- A second coat of sealer will improve the film build and give added depth to the final finish on porous or open grain woods such as oak, mahogany, etc. Allow second coat to dry 1 hour before sanding lightly and applying finish coat.
Application
- Brush application: For best results use a natural bristle brush. Apply a full brush load of Sealcoat to the surface using full, even strokes, brushing back into the wet material to maintain a wet edge. Do not over brush or brush back into material once it becomes tacky.
- Wiping application: Use a lint free cloth. Pour or brush a liberal quantity of Sealcoat onto the surface and quickly work into the wood with brush, making sure sealer soaks thoroughly into any open or end grain. Wipe away any excess with cloth and stop wiping when surface becomes tacky. For vertical surfaces pour Sealcoat onto cloth and wipe over the wood. If the wood is stained, a second application may be needed to avoid sanding through the sealer and the stain.
- Spray application: May be spray applied using conventional, HVLP systems, or airless. Use a .011 to .013 tip and 800 ? 1000 psi for airless spray application. Follow equipment manufacturer?s instructions.
