Description

Zinsser Watertite White waterproofing paint is guaranteed to keep water out. It is specially designed to protect against fungal degradation for a minimum of 5 years. It can easily be applied to wet or dry surfaces creating a smooth, non-gritty, non-yellowing finish and providing an instant remedy to water issues.

Zinsser Watertite White adheres to any interior or exterior masonry surface, above and below grade and is formulated to prevent recurring efflorescence on concrete and brickwork. Its unique solvent-based formula combines a state-of-the-art waterproofing resin with Portland cement to create a coating that stops up to 34psi of water pressure.

Preparation

New or unpainted masonry

Surface must be clean and free of dirt, grease, oil, soap and other contaminants. New masonry must cure at least 30 days before applying Zinsser Watertite. Salting or efflorescence – a white powdery deposit often found on walls – must be removed (?etched?) with a solution of hydrochloric acid or concrete etching compound. Follow manufacturer?s directions and safety precautions. Rinse the surface thoroughly with water after application. Remove all existing mould and mildew. Use a proper fungicidal wash following manufacturer?s directions.
For commercial buildings, follow appropriate guidelines for mould removal.

Previously painted surfaces

Zinsser Watertite is designed to produce a waterproof finish when applied to bare masonry. It can be used over previously painted surfaces, however its waterproofing ability is then dependent upon the integrity of the previous coating. For best results, remove as much of the old coating as possible by manually scraping the surface, followed by thorough wire brushing. A belt power sander with a 50 grit sanding belt is also effective.

Take special precautions during surface preparation of pre-1960 paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead. Avoid the inhalation of dust. Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding. Powwer wash or sand blast exterior surfaces to remove all loose and scaling paint and cement. Clean all surfaces with an efflorescence remover or brick cleaner and rinse as detailed above. Remove any loose sand and grit from the surface by vacuuming or sweeping.

Patching Water Leaks and Cracks

Patch all holes and cracks, especially active water leaks, with hydraulic cement. Seal the joint where the floor and wall meet with hydraulic cement (e.g. Portland Cement) or a flexible urethane sealant. Follow manufacturer?s directions for dry time, etc.
